Emcee/Moderator, Public Diplomacy, Legal Thinker, Communications, Educator
For two decades, I have worked in communications in government, the private sector and with major broadcasters, including in the UAE before returning to Australia with the ABC. In 2024 I relocated to Abu Dhabi on diplomatic posting. My expertise is grounded in academic qualifications from the Australian National University, Monash University and Swinburne University of Technology which include a Juris Doctor (in progress), a Graduate Diploma in Law, a Master of Islam in the Modern World, and a BA in Media Communications and Business Marketing.
Moderating and emceeing requires more than a Gen AI approach - human connection is very important. Working with integrity takes experience, emotional and cultural intelligence, and a fundamental respect - for the panelists, the audience, the knowledge sharing, the moment, culture and the event organisers. It also requires a high level of preparation to refine technique and to intuit body language and the values of tone, timing and trust. A skilled moderator starts a conversation, concludes a conversation, and creates a meeting of minds for a vision of tomorrow. Through expert preparation, I always strive to bring the essence of assentio mentium - meeting of minds - into all my engagements with a natural balance of timed and spontaneous dialogue that leaves a lasting, positive impression, every time.

Good Moderating Achieves Assentio Mentium
Too often, the key elements of professional presenting are noticeably overlooked. The result? lost opportunities for collaboration and long-term partnerships. This also happens when your presenter is busy ‘presenting’ the performative over the substantive. Facilitating meaningful dialogue - especially at a global level - requires more than just manufacturing a conversation. Being able to ‘read the room’ is an artform and a show of respect grounded in deep listening, awareness and cultural sensitivity - for all the voices in the room, and the spaces between them.
Assentio Mentium creates Connection

"Assentio Mentium" - The Meeting of Minds
Assentio Mentium, is Latin for “a meeting of minds” and synonymous with law. It signals aligned intent and mutual understanding, which are fundamental to good moderating. The UAE is a crossroads of ideas, trade, innovation and connectivity with a culture shaped by the spirit of assentio mentium. It is a country where a consistent meeting of minds creates a shared global vision that inspires sustainable progress in so many ways.
Wisāl وِصال means connection. This spirit of connection and engagement is at the heart of my work as a professional communicator. This is what I do: I strive to achieve assentio mentium — a meeting of minds — through wisāl, connection. Creating meaningful connections allows me to guide important conversations toward an essential and dynamic question: “What’s next?” Integrity and authenticity cannot be AI’d, - for now at least - and with the right balance of Gen AI and Gen Human, together we can create and deliver thoughtful dialogue.
